About Green Girl Studios

Green Girl Studios is a bead and jewelry-making business run by Cynthia Thornton and Gregory Ogden. Their studio is located in the idyllic mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.

Green Girl Studios produces beautiful silver and lead free pewter beads, pendants, clasps and more. The themes of their work include nature and mythical characters such as mermaids, angels, and harpies. They currently have over two hundred designs in their collection. Their work is highly collectable and can be found in bead stores, personal collections and in jewelry all over the world.

Their process involves lots of sketching using pencil, pen and ink, watercolor or colored pencil; whatever inspires them. Then they carve a master from wax. This wax model is then cast using the lost wax casting method. The silver piece that emerges becomes the master, from which they produce the multiples that are sold. The master is a one-of-a-kind, if it breaks that design run is complete.

Cynthia began by making things she liked. While is school and in her early career she was inspired by Japanese ojime (sculptural beads used as a toggle to close boxes worn on kimonos). Now, she considers the message, the symbolism and how each design will work in jewelry.

Green Girl Studios Beads, Pendants and Clasps are beautiful. We are very happy to offer new selections of this artist's work several times each year.
